SUMMER PROGRAMS

Summer is an excellent time for your child to focus on speech, language, reading and social skills.  In addition to our traditional sessions, we offer group and individual therapy sessions that target specific areas of need.

POWER UP SOCIAL SKILLS CAMPS AND GROUPS

Does your child have difficulty making and keeping friends, or learning how to read and respond appropriately to social cues?  Picking up on social cues, both verbal and non-verbal, is a skill with which many children and adolescents struggle.  These struggles can cause awkward and frustrating situations for our children, often leading to anxiety, lack of self control, and anger.  Our week-long POWER UP camp and/or ongoing groups can help.  These social groups are age-specific and concentrate on:

​Peer interaction 

Observance and mindfulness

Will power and self-control

Encouragement and friendliness

Rapport and and empathy

​

Understanding social cues

Politeness and appropriateness

 

Within these groups, kids are taught to use and understand appropriate body language and facial expressions, initiate and respond to interactions such as play and conversations, take turns, problem solving, and negotiations.  The groups are interactive and fun, and teach kids to handle situations they encounter at home, at school, and during extracurricular activities.

For those not wanting a regular, weekly group experience for their child, we have ongoing social skills groups in Huntsville.  These groups use the same techniques as our camps to teach social skills, and meet for one hour per week on Monday afternoons.  We currently have space to add more participants and more groups.

*Please note we would like to screen each camper for both Athens and Huntsville camps to ensure they are placed in the age/skill-appropriate session.

INTENSIVE SPEECH PROGRAMS

Would you like to boost your child's speech and language skills this summer?  Our Intensive Programs are individualized and designed to give children a boost in their weakest areas.  These programs address specific goals over a 6 to 8 week period.  These one-on-one sessions focus solely on your child's needs.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING PROGRAM

Is your child struggling with completing tasks, paying attention, or following instructions?  If so, they may have weak executive functioning skills; the ones that help them set and achieve goals, minimize distractions, prioritize tasks, and control their impulses.  These are not innate skills, but each child has the potential to develop them.  Our techniques teach the child to:

• Improve memory

• Stick to tasks

• Reduce impulses

• Get organized

• Plan ahead

• Manage time wisely

We will help your child develop and strengthen a growth mindset, and experience the resulting lifelong benefits.

INTENSIVE READING THERAPY

Does your child:

• Misunderstand what you say?

• Have difficulty comprehending or retelling a story?

• Give slow or delayed responses?

• Mispronounce typical word sounds?

• Have difficulty reading or learning to read?

If you answered yes to one or a few of these questions, your child may not be processing the sounds of language well or may not link sounds to certain letters.  This can lead to reading and/or academic struggles.  Language and reading mastery are among the most difficult challenges a child faces.  Would you like to boost your child's reading level this summer?  Our Intensive Reading Therapy is designed to develop and bolster:
